Ludlow Junior School

PSHE

Curriculum Intent

At Ludlow Junior School, pupils personal development underpins every aspect of school life; positive relationships are at the heart of our school and we recognise that the success of our children ultimately depends on their happiness. We are therefore committed to delivering a PSHE curriculum which results in pupils gaining the knowledge and skills which will prepare them for life in modern Britain now and in their future roles within the global community.

It is our intention that our PSHE curriculum supports children with developing an understanding of how to play a positive and successful role within our community, enabling them to navigate the choices that they make now and as adults. We intend for our PSHE curriculum to allow teachers to guide children through the exploration of real-life scenarios, supporting children in being able to recognise and assess risks, including online, and navigate a range of real-life decisions so they can develop as responsible citizens.

Tolerance, individual liberty, mutual respect, the rule of law and democracy are golden threads that are woven throughout our inclusive curriculum. We aim to provide our children with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and protected characteristics and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. At Ludlow Junior School, there are ‘No Outsiders’. Children understand that everyone is welcome, everyone is equal.

By the time pupils leave Ludlow Junior School, we aim for them to:

  • Have a clear understanding of how to maintain healthy relationships.
  • Know how to stay safe, both online and offline.
  • Be able to explain how they can look after their physical and mental health.
  • Be able to express their own opinions whilst also learning how to be tolerant and respectful towards others opinions that may be different from their own.
  • Have an understanding of economic wellbeing, with consideration of how to keep track of money.
  • Develop an understanding of the broad range of careers as well as the skills they may need for these.
