Writing

Curriculum Intent

At Ludlow Junior School, our intention for the Key Stage 2 writ ing curriculum is to inspire and empower every child to be come a confident, creative, and proficient writer. We aim to cultivate a love for writing by providing engaging and diverse learning experiences that cater to the varied interests and abili ties of our students. Through a structured approach to the writing process, we encourage children to: express their thoughts and ideas effectively; develop their own unique voice; and understand the importance of audience and purpose.

Our curriculum is designed to build essential skills in grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and to revisit these key building blocks for writing frequently, so they become automatic.

We believe in the power of storytelling and the impact of writ ten communication, and we strive to create opportunities for students to explore different genres and styles of writing, including narrative, poetry, and non-fiction. To enhance this learning, our writing units are based on high-quality texts which have been chosen to challenge and inspire.

We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where children feel safe to take risks in their writing. By promoting collaboration, peer feedback, and self-reflection, we aim to enhance their writing journey and instill resilience and perseverance. Ultimately, our goal is to equip students with the skills and confidence to articulate their ideas and en gage meaningfully with the world around them, preparing them for future academic and personal success.
