Continued Development
Continual Professional Development (CPD) at Ludlow and learning for all
To support, challenge and inspire all members of our community is our core purpose and we see a key ‘lever’ in achieving these goals as being the ongoing professional development and training of staff whilst offering further opportunities for parents and carers to develop their understanding of our curriculum, how teaching and learning is structured and core aspects of pupil safety such as online safety awareness training.
Our staff professional development is strongly centred around ‘coaching for all’. We see every member of staff as a continuing learner and develop a coaching profile for all staff – regardless of the experience, expertise and specialisms. Much of our coaching is delivered in house and reflects the outcomes of observations, training discussions, professional development meetings and performance management. We build and deliver bespoke training packages for staff as well as delivering whole staff training sessions. Weekly staff meetings are referred to as professional development meetings (PDMs) and the focus is very much on teaching and learning – not business and diary matters.
Beyond these frameworks we also participate strongly in local authority training – as participants or providers (e.g. we have a very strong representation in the local authority writing moderation team) and training which is nationally provided. We pride ourselves on being able to provide outreach support for other settings and will act as a host school for other settings and initial training providers.
We have also begun to participate in the Challenge Partners network. This means that we are committed to other schools formally visiting us to evaluate our work through 3 days of in school observation. It also means that members of our senior team will participate in evaluating schools across the country to help with their self evaluation and our team development.
Locally we are constantly looking to refresh and renew working partnerships so that we can enjoy the very best development opportunities alongside colleagues in local authority schools, other single academy trusts and locally formed multi academy trusts.
For parents and carers we are keen to offer a range of learning opportunities across each academic year whereby we can support the development of understanding in areas such as the teaching and learning of reading, methodology and approaches in maths teaching, the teaching of relationships and sex education and online safety training.
We pride ourselves on being a committed and inclusive learning community for all.
