Catering Manager
Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a new and flexible role within our school to support and lead our existing catering team of chef, catering assistant, food service assistant and wash up assistant.
This role predominantly supports the school business manager and takes the management lead on all things catering in our 600-pupil junior school, allowing our chef and operational team to be just that.
An example of areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to ;
- Team and performance lead for the kitchen team
- School vision and menu development
- Sourcing and purchasing
- Service delivery
- Strategic oversight of Food Standards, H & S and Compliancy
- Quality assurance and training
- Financial forecasting and compliancy within agreed budgets
This would suit you if you were looking to showcase your catering leadership skills a little more remotely from the actual head chef operational role, although you may need to pop your chef’s whites on to support some aspects of your role. You will be comfortable working in a dynamic kitchen within a school environment, and would like the flexibility of the mixed economy of on site/off site role.
The role equates to 1 day a week, term time, but in reality, is likely to require some agreed block time and/or front loading each term to develop menus and strategies to implement across the forward term – this being balanced with agreed routine and regular on site compliancy and oversight aspects which might include quality control and records testing.
You are likely to need to be available for school INSET days to meet, train and support your immediate team away from the business of the routine day.
We are open to a blended approach of working from home for management led planning tasks, and on site for operational oversight, management meetings and team support.
The role will involve liaison with the senior team and the operational catering team, and will be looking for your professional expertise in the school delivering an exemplary service to our customers that is exciting and healthy.
